WILL THE NEW IMMIGRATION RULES AFFECT THE EXISTING IMMIGRANTS? Number 10 has confirmed that although the new policy is not retrospective but people are expected to comply with the immigration rules of the day. This means during extension an applicant has to follow the rule of the day and will need to show a Minimum income of £38.7k. It’s highly unlikely that the current employer will agree to such a pay rise. The alternative is to obtain a new job with a higher rate which may not be easy. So, it might end the journey at the time of renewal by quitting the job and going back to the home country. This will be quite harsh on both the employer and the employee. At this point, I am hoping for a suitable solution which would come through the Home Office, parliament or even the court. We need to wait to see how the new rules pan out.
